5 Extraordinary Vegan Restaurants in the Algarve

I’ve tried and tested all these marvellous places and loved them all! I’m not a vegan but the food in every place was fabulous and I can see why people ditch meat! Would happy visit them all again and pleasantly surprised at the variety and innovative use of food alternatives to re-create tradition meat dishes. I would advise you to book as they are all busy but strictly adhering to current Covid restrictions.

Veggie Momi

Rua Primeiro de Dezembro Porta 27A (Behind Igreja de Sant’ Ana) Albufeira 8200-172 +351 289 585 080

A simple vegan place with good homemade vegan and healthy food. Good coffee and cake and a little shop with some vegan products. Above that, the vegan Momi herself is a joy to have around, laughing, joking and helping out. The location is not far from the old town (2 min walk) so excellent place to drop by for lunch or a snack. Don’t go there if you are in a rush! Veggie Momi takes the orders, cleans everything and cooks everything (on the spot and home-made) by herself. Her English is great and she is such a delight! The food was cheap and good quality. The day we popped in we had lasagna which was just unbelievably fabulous – I’m amazed at how tasty vegan food is.

The Vegan Box

Rua Cruz das Mestras, number 4, in Faro

Vegan pastel de nata, vegan salami, oreo salami, rice pudding and pudding, sweet potato bread pasta bolognaise are just a few of the soooo tempting dishes on offer at this family-run business. Mama and two daughters have made this fabulous space for all things only vegan. You can be even more environmentally friendly and bring your own container for the ladies to fill! The take-away side of things has a few standard dishes with added daily specials, just like the eat-in option.  Excellent value for money.

Vegan Joe’s

R. de Portugal 47, 8100-554 Loulé

https://www.facebook.com/veganjoes/289 053 723

Cashew cheeses, tofu hamburger, lentil pies, curry, fresh juices and desserts, tofu with pumpkin and asparagus risotto and the list goes on and on! The best chilli con carne I have ever ever had – better than any meat chilli. Dessert t was the biggest surprise – I find many vegan deserts can be hit and miss but their Chocolate Mouse was so good. It was rich with flavour but light at the same time. Delicious!

Book in advance because its always always busy and turns people away so booking is essential.

Alfarroba Café

Rua Manuel Teixeira Gomes, Parque da Corcovada, 8200-321 Albufeira Faro District, Portugal

+351 289 512 559

Alfarroba Café is a great location where you can enjoy a 100% vegan home-made meal, made from the best organic ingredients harvested locally, guaranteed no additives or refined sugars which is a bonus. Their menu changes daily but always includes a soup, dish and dessert. In the past, they have served quiche, millet pie, miso soup and cocoa and peanut pie. Its simple, honest food and the menu has been carefully compiled to encompass all the nutritional values you need. And, it tastes fantastic!

OUTRO LADO

Travessa da Madalena N6 8000-461 Faro, Portugal351 911 000 359

Probably the best burger I have ever had in my life! What a fab place.  It’s always great when the chef is prepared to talk you through the ingredients and give you cooking tips too. Fantastic service, staff, food, variety, great prices.  All together probably my favourite!
